This is a perfect circular walk for unobstructed views across the undulating Lewes Downs. Taking in the site of an ancient fort, the route follows the access land through a short chalk valley through Oxteddle Bottom to Glynde.
Distance: 7.5km / 4.6 miles
Time: 3 hours (including breaks)
Group Size: 2 to 6 (depending on changes to Covid rules)
Is it for me?
A hilly route across open grassland, with great views across the South Downs on clear days. Easy underfoot, with some muddy patches when wet. Some stiles to cross. There are a few short hill climbs and descents – and one steep climb, so a moderate level of fitness is required.
You will hear about the history of the site of the old fort and the surrounding area, as well as learning about the wildlife we come across. Or if you simply want to take in the view, then that’s fine!
